Patron Gives New Meaning to “Bringing in New Readers to the Library”
I am not feeling well (I have strep throat and a sinus infection, lucky me) so I’m going to make today’s post short (no need for cheering, Peanut Gallery).
But yesterday, I saw a crazy true story on the MSNBC website that I just had to post about: A lady who gave birth to a baby in a library. Yes, you heard that right - a lady got on the city bus to go to the library, but somewhere along the way, she went into labor, and by time she walked through the front doors of the library, was in full-on labor. She gave birth in the foyer of the library, and was taken shortly afterwards to the local hospital.
She gave birth to a baby girl, which of course, makes me wonder: What is she going to call her new little bundle of joy? C’mon - there’s no way she could avoid naming her something to do with libraries and books, right?
So I’m opening up the comment section for ideas of what you guys think she should have named her new little baby girl. The most creative answer gets all of the accolades and honor that comes with such an amazing contribution. In other words, sorry, nothing that cool. Except you knowing, deep down inside, that you’re just so awesome.

Ha ha! We have some REALLY crazy things that happen in the libraries here, but as far as I know, no one has ever given birth in them!
I think that the mother should name her daughter Dewey, in honor of the Dewey Decimal System.
I voted for “both,” in your poll.
Okay… not so creative! But, how about Agatha?
In remembrance of Agatha Cristie… who had a best-selling book - And Then There Were None !
Hmm. .. I think I’m in favor of a name such as Charlotte (as in Charlotte Bronte) or Jane (as in Jane Eyre). Laura is also a great name
(not just because it’s my name of course - but you know, Laura Ingalls Wilder - a pioneer, and this little girl is a pioneer of sorts - being birthed in a place not normally known for birthing!)
… Livra (like Libra, but with a “V”) … like the French “livre” for book
I would love to suggest the name of the hyperefficient librarian in The Desk Set, but even I can’t advocate the name, “Bunny”.
How about the name, Alexandria, after the famous (and sadly lost to fire) Library of Alexandria, reputedly the largest library of the ancient world.
Oh, I like Stephanie’s suggestion! My own is Novella - the literary bent is obvious, but there’s more. Ella also means a bright light, and Nova means new, so she is a bright, new shining light with a new story of her own to tell.
And while I’m here — CONGRATULATIONS on being named Editor’s Choice Blog for January! Woohoo!!! I love it that two of my favorite blogs were awarded this month.
How about Paige, Sonnet or Kyrielle (this is a poetry form)? Or, they could name her something that would give her the initials DPL for Denver Public Library, where it happened
Congratulations on winning the Editor’s Choice Award for January! Woohoo! Keep up the great work!
Hava, hope you get feeling better! Congratulations on winning the Editor’s Choice Award! You deserve it!
I won?? Oh boy, I won!! *cough* Sorry - I don’t win very often, y’know? And honestly, I can’t imagine a better award than being named cool and awesome through and through by someone I love to read. And having said that - I hope they name the kid Paige ;).
That’s a weird story…..Alexandria gets my vote for the name.
You know, my ex-husband’s grandmother was named Novella. I’d never heard the name before.
By the way, it’s now the left sidebar
